The Effects on you.

Whether you have seen, or heard, or are directly attacked, abuse will be having an effect on you.

FEELINGS

Nervous, sad, depressed, lacking confidence, guilty (It's my fault), angry, wary, frightened, hate yourself, poor self image "I'm fat / ugly / useless / stupid", walking on egg shells, anxious - never know what to expect, weepy, clingy to mum, frustrated, suspicious of adults. You may feel over eager to please or that you need approval from others. You may be feeling aggressive or be bullying others.

PHYSICAL

Headaches, tiredness, stomach cramps, worsening asthma or eczema, speech problems, can't sleep, sleep all the time, over eating or not eating at all, nightmares, flashbacks, bedwetting, feeling sick, having diarrhoea...

AT SCHOOL

You may be having poor concentration, poor attendance, or fear attending at all. You may have been labelled as an under-achiever or the opposite and be doing really well with perfectionist standards, fearing failure.

The following are just a few questions that are often asked, if you have any more, turn to the back page for more numbers and advice.
