Car Park OCTOBER 6th 2006

Dear Parents

As I am sure you are aware, particularly if you have had bad experiences yourselves, the car park continues to cause serious problems for all who use it.

It is the subject of intense ongoing debate at the highest level within the county halls and several site visits by many departments have taken place.

However, for those who use it at present, it is causing considerable unease and inconvenience.

On our arrival back to school in September, Mr Geraint Davies, Head of Twm o’r Nant and myself were aghast to see how the white lining had taken place over the vacation. We were expecting an “outside lane” skirting the perimeter of the car park for the sole use of buses and taxis picking up at Ty’n Fron. In stead, as you know, the car park is covered in car spaces. As a result, if you park in any of the spaces in the new section adjacent to the wall or to the right of the lane through the park, you will be trapped until after the taxis have left – maybe as late as 3.30pm!

The taxis and buses are not permitted to move, as their remit is to park up and remain completely stationary until told to move by Ty’n Fron staff. This is an established Health and Safety approved procedure which has to be adhered to in connection with transport and special education. The inability to use all of the new extension puts great pressure on the original car park.

This is of little use to you as parents of children in Frongoch and until something drastic is done with the lining and traffic control, the situation remains impossible. An important meeting is taking place on Monday at 2.45pm in the car park when Council officials will be present to witness the chaos. We are hoping that a swift solution will follow but this remains to be seen.

In the meantime can I please urge you take the greatest of care when using any section of the car park. Children’s safety is my sole concern. Please take every precaution when manoeuvring, keep speed down to the minimum and exercise even more caution during wet days when car park usage will be at a premium.

The best advice I can give you is do not use the car park. If you do use it, it may be best to avoid the new extension.

If you have any comments to make regarding this issue please address them to John Williams, Lifelong Learning, Denbighshire County Council.

Many thanks.

Yours sincerely
