| | School Council Information The School Council has a representative from each class who brings to the termly meetings, requests for information, suggestions and reports which all contribute to the running and hopefully, the improvement of the school.
The Summer term 2006 meeting will be held shortly. reps will be discussing with their class-mates any issues which concern them in readiness for this meeting.
Since the complaints of the last meeting involving the school playground, Mrs Rhiannon Hughes, Lead Member of the County Council has visited and made strong recommendations for improvements to be made. These will involve increased hard play and the removal of grassed sections.
The most recent School Council meeting held in the last week of November was a very productive one and saw our new Year 3 pupils contributing actively to the discussions with highly valid arguements.
All age groups in the school are very dissatisfied with the poor arrangements for play in the wake of the Ty'n Fron developments. Assurances from the County go only some way to reassure our children that things will improve in the new year.
Wet playtimes were a source of complaint also. The Council members are going to arrange for the collection of magazines/comics and games in each class for use on wet breaks.
There are 2 Air Hockey Tables which are to be used by classes in rotation under rules for fair use set by the Council Members. These tables were bought after recommendation from the School Council.
The February meeting asked for the following to be taken into consideration:
1. Yard is very muddy. Can something be done about it?
2. How can we get children to respect the toilets and keep them clean?
3. Some children need to make more of an effort to stay outside during lunchtimes. What can be done to improve this situation?
Response:
1.Headteacher will arrange industrial cleaning of yard during February break.Done
2.Council reps to discuss with class mates.
3.Council reps to discuss with class mates. PTA have bought a wide variety of playground games and activities which are proving to be great fun for the children.
NEXT MEETING : MONDAY 7TH JUNE 12.30PM
Meeting 7th June
All classes were represented and brought a variety of requests and views to the meeting.
The following observations were made:
1. Could the use of liquid soap be considered for use in the toilets?
2. Air freshners need attention in the boys toilets.
3. Could plastic mirrors be installed in the upper Junior Toilets?
4. Door closer on Upper Junior Boys' Toilets needs to be "speeded up".
5. Could the use of "prefects" be considered to monitor the coming into school at lunchtimes?
6. Could a healthy eating tuckshop be initiated?
7. Could we have a safer bike shed?
8.Could the staff consider allowing children to take water bottles outside during lunchtime?
9.Could more taps be made available to fill water bottles?
10.A higher fence is needed around school field to prevent ball loss.
11.Wider paths around the school field would be good if possible.
12.The order for children going into the dining room may need looking at to ensure a more fair rotation.
13.Could children taking packed lunch be allowed to picnic periodically?
14. Could a baking club be considered?
15. Could a permanent shade shelter be provided?
16. Could a tennis club be considered?
17. Could a dancing club be considered?
18. Could more bins be available outside?
Several requests for outdoor fixed equipment/adventure type equipment were made including the creation of a minibeast area. The headteacher was very apologetic in refusing these requests at present because of the ongoing vandalism problem. It is hoped that increased security which is planned for the site in the future will make such requests possible to attend to positively.
Thanks to the School Council for bringing the above to the attention of the school staff. Consideration will now be given and a set of responses published for School Council Reps to feedback to their classmates.
