Ysgol Frongoch Eco-School Club has been meeting every Thursday evening after school. During the autumn term the committee was made up of members of class 7, but in the spring term they have been joined by some members of class 8. We will let you know about our plans and what we have achieved by updating this web page. We hope you find the information useful and interesting.
HEALTHY EATING FOR CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES
Healthy eating habits early on in life makes it more likely your children will grow up with a healthy respect for food, but eating a healthy diet isn't easy!
It is important that your child has a water bottle for school. Water keeps us alert and stops us dehydrating. It is a great choice of drink at lunch time too!
By the time playtime is here we all feel hungry. A healthy snack like fruit helps us to concentrate and work hard until dinner time.
A variety of food is good to have. Eating something different each day is important. Make sure it is a mixture of fruit & vegetables, dairy products and grains. There is some really tasty bread in the shops that make sandwiches interesting.
After school toast is a good snack. Fruit salad or a fruit kebab is lovely in the summer. In the winter, soup is great – and crammed with vitamins.
In the evenings it is good to carry on drinking water and to have a meal. It is nice to eat food at the table because it gives families a chance to speak about their day.
There are loads of websites with ideas for healthy meals. Lots of them cost less and taste better than unhealthy ready meals.
WHY WALK TO SCHOOL?
It's less stressful than driving - pushchairs are easier to park than cars.
It's a healthy way to save money - no motoring costs.
It's a healthy way of doing your bit for the environment - it cuts down on pollution.
It's interesting - you see more when you walk.
It's friendly - you can meet and make friends on the way.
It's quality time to chat with your children about their day.
It's educational - by walking together, you can help your child stay safe on the road when they are alone.
It's considerate - by keeping the roads near the school clear of traffic, you make life easier for pedestrians.
It's fun - there are lots of games you can play on the way.
It keeps you and your children fit - start the day with fresh air and exercise. You'll feel great!
You don't have to walk every day or all the way - a little and often by the majority, can make a huge difference.
